Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Not A Court Of Law ("NACOL," "we," "us") collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights. NACOL is operated by Flip Ltd. By using the platform, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: Username, email address, hashed password, and display name when you register.
User Content: Case filings, defendant responses, comments, and any text you submit to the platform. This content is public.
Votes: When you vote on a case, we record your IP address and verdict to enforce the one-vote-per-case rule. Votes are not linked to your account unless you are logged in.
Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited — collected automatically for security and fraud prevention.
Communications: If you contact us by email, we retain your messages.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
- Phone numbers
- Physical addresses
- Financial or payment information (we charge nothing)
- Government IDs
- Precise geolocation
- Social media credentials
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process data:
- hCaptcha — bot/spam prevention on registration. Subject to hCaptcha's Privacy Policy.
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — case summaries and AI rulings. Case content may be sent to Anthropic's API. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Brevo (Sendinblue) — transactional emails (summons, notifications). Email addresses are processed by Brevo to deliver emails.
- Cloudinary — if media uploads are enabled, images are stored on Cloudinary's infrastructure.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not use advertising networks or tracking pixels.
4. Cookies
We use one session cookie to keep you logged in. It is a functional cookie, not a tracking cookie. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. If you block cookies, you can still browse the site but cannot log in.
5. How We Use Your Data
- To operate the platform and process cases
- To prevent fraud and vote manipulation (IP-based deduplication)
- To send case-related emails you have opted into (summons, verdict notifications)
- To improve the platform and detect bugs
- To comply with legal obligations
6. Public Content
Case titles, descriptions, plaintiff/defendant names, comments, and verdicts are public by default. Anyone on the internet can read them. Do not submit personal information about yourself or others that you would not want to be publicly visible.
7. Data Retention
Case content is retained as part of the public record. Either party may request case sealing/deletion at any time. Account data is retained until you delete your account. IP vote records are retained for up to 2 years for fraud prevention purposes. Sealed cases are hidden from public view but may be retained internally.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Object to processing in certain circumstances
- Data portability — request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format

9. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including password hashing (bcrypt), CSRF protection, rate limiting, and HTTPS. No system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.
10. Children's Privacy
NACOL is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data.
11. GDPR / International Users
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under GDPR. Our lawful basis for processing is: (a) contract performance (operating your account), (b) legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention), and (c) consent (case submissions). 12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after changes = acceptance.
