I Told My Mom Her Cooking Has Always Been Bad

My mom has been making the same five dinners my entire life. The chicken is always dry. The pasta is always overcooked. The soup is always canned broth with vegetables thrown in. For 28 years every family member has said it was great to avoid hurting her feelings. This Thanksgiving she made the turkey and it was genuinely inedible. I had one glass of wine and said Mom I love you but I think we should do a potluck next year because cooking has never really been your thing. She cried. My dad is not speaking to me. My sister said I was brave. I said what everyone was thinking.

I have been cooking for this family for 35 years. Thanksgiving. Christmas. Every birthday. Every sick day. I got up at 5am to make that turkey. Jess ate my food for 28 years without one complaint.
